After a rocky start to the New Year with another lockdown, and not knowing exactly when life will be back to normal and free from COVID restrictions, we can only hope summer 2021 will be the start of more joyous occasions. In the spirit of that hope, we’ve rounded up the best summer events set to be hosted in London this year.
July 2021 – UEFA Euro 2020
The UEFA Euro 2020 championships were postponed until 2021 due to coronavirus, so we now have them to look forward to this summer. Showcasing international talent from the sport world of football, the UEFA Euro is set to finish at Wembley Stadium in London on 11 July.
Starting on 11 June, matches are set to be held at cities across the world, including Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Rome.
June – July 2021 – Wimbledon Tennis Tournament
The oldest tennis tournament in the world is back and returns to the All England Club. We’re sure it will be an incredible competition.
August – September 2021 – Greenwich & Docklands International Festival
This free event takes place across Royal Greenwich, Docklands and Tower Hamlets, showcasing an extensive programme of art installations, street theatre, dance acts and music events.
6 – 11th July – Kew Gardens Music Festival
With headline acts including Van Morrison, DJ Spoony and James Blunt, Kew the Music is an open-air concert with stunning surroundings.
10 – 11th July – British Summer Time Hyde Park
The award-winning music festival is set to place this summer with headline guests Pearl Jam and Duran Duran. Whether the festival will run as normal is yet to be confirmed, but this open house festival includes street food, open-air cinema screening and free summer activities.
July 2021 – RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival
The world’s largest annual flower show is set to return to RHS Hampton Court Palace. Explore stunning flowers displays, see demonstrations from celebrity gardeners and chefs, and shop for your own garden supplies.
July 2021 – September 2021 BBC Proms 2021
BBC Proms hosts two months of concerts over the summer, sharing the finest classical music with an informal atmosphere. The season of concerts are held at the Royal Albert Hall and other venues across London.
24 – 25th July – ABB FIA Formula E Championship at ExCeL London
The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is coming to London this summer for the season finale in the 2020/21 London E-prix.
August 2021 – Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House 2021
The incredible Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court hosts London’s largest screen with Somerset House as it’s backdrop. Watch modern and classic films in the open-air with a range of food and drink options available on the night.
29th – 30th August 2021 – Notting Hill Carnival 2021
Notting Hill Carnival is London’s biggest street party full of Caribbean music, fashion, music and food. Watch eye-catching floats and costumed performers as you dance to incredible calypso music and steel bands.
18th – 26th September 2021 – London Design Festival 2021
Showcasing the work of designers, architects, artists and retailers, London Design Festival will see a number of creative installations across the city at the end of September.
